Holy God,
I’m asking (Matthew 7:7) You to teach me all You want me to know about being hospitable. It’s not my strong point. I’m going to be needing a crash course please.
Joy and honor.
Generosity.
All I have belongs to God.
People are more important than things.
Show hospitality without grumbling (1 Peter 4:9).
Prioritize people over stuff.
Taste and see how good the Lord is.
Not always easy, but always worth it.
“Sorry I’m late… I didn’t want to come.” Oh how true that quote is for me, Lord. SO true!
Hebrews 13:2
1 Timothy 5:10
Sacrifice our goods for the good of others (Romans 12:13)
Pursue with zeal the practical needs of others.
Reach out to others with sacrificial, needs-meeting love that leaves no room for grumbling (1 Peter 4:9)
Psalm 23:5
Isaiah 25:6/Matthew 8:11
Titus 1:7,8
“We are guests in God’s world. God has shown us incredible hospitality every day—which is one of the reasons most of us pray before we eat. We’re living in His world, eating His food, and we are grateful! Even more than this, in Christ He’s transformed us from enemies into His very family, bringing us into His very house, and has promised to live with us forever.
“And so when this good news of the gospel gets into our hearts, it takes away the sense that our homes belong to us. Rather than castles where we go to retreat from the world, our houses and tables are ministry centres, loaned to us by God, where we get to invite people in to taste His generous gospel love—literally.” Chris Hutchinson
