Blessed, Holy Glorious God,
Thank You that I get to keep thinking of Who and all You are. Good. Great. Glorious. Gracious. Those 4G’s have been a game changer for me.
Lord, I confess to You how very much time I spend inside my head. My everyday tendency is to replay negative memories. Hurts. Slights. Perceived injustices. And now? I have this readily available antidote.
I used it last night and earlier this morning. Various thoughts were taking my mind in so many directions. Reminding myself that I’m blessed and grateful put the focus on me.
Wanting the attention on You instead I remembered the 4G’s. Father, You truly are good. Great. Glorious. And gracious. Thank You that You are.
Oh, BAM! Just look at this. Here I am admitting my heart [or is it really my mind?] to You and I find another Tim Chester document. 4G’s HOW GOD IS BETTER THAN IDOLS PREACHING TO OUR HEARTS.
The first paragraph describes me to a T. Taking the liberty of quoting what I’ve found I begin at the beginning.
“We need to become preachers. We need to learn to preach to our own hearts.” Lord, this is exactly what You’ve been doing in me lately!
Referencing Psalm 103:2 Pastor Chester explains the psalmist is speaking to himself when he says, “Praise the LORD, I tell myself, and never forget the good things He does for me” (New Living Translation).
While still in the first paragraph I learn, “The preacher Martyn Lloyd-Jones said, ‘Have you realized that most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself?’”
Father I love the way this sermon intersperses modern day speakers with Your Truth. “We need to take every thought captive” (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). Our problem says Sinclair Ferguson, is that ‘we think with our feelings.’” Oh the accuracy here in regards to myself.
“We don’t always feel joy in God, but by faith we can tell ourselves that He IS [my emphasis] our joy.” I’m not even out of the first paragraph yet! Father, thank You that my heart comes alive as I read “when we find that our emotions are getting the better of us, we need to speak Truth to our hearts.”
That’s exactly what I did again last night. “God is great. God is good. God is glorious. God is gracious.” And sleep happened.
The sermon continues offering helps of living Your Truth. ♪How Sweet the Name of Jesus Sounds♪ (1 Corinthians 1:2-3) is mentioned. And I’m still on the first page (of eight).
Father, as I prepare to leave our time together I invite You to come along with me. Throughout the whole day. I want to trust Your greatness. Your goodness. Your grace. And Your glory.
I love You. I need You. I want You. And I ask You to use me this day. Exactly as You alone know is best. Thank You for teaching me more. Praise You. Amen.
